Vermailian Confederacy

The fate of Lost Vermailia is one of the great mysteries of our galaxy. How or why the Vermailian homeworld vanished from history may never be known from the scanty surviving records, but the date of its perishing, 137 s.y.v.p., is commemorated in the Old Vermailian Calendar used in the Diaspora and early Confederacy. Even the nature of the loss is ambiguous: was the homeworld destroyed, or merely rendered uninhabitable? (In the millennia since, countless explorers have claimed to identify this or that planet as Lost Vermailia, but never convincingly.) One of the more exotic theories proposes that Vermailia was host to a Worldmind which met a tragic fate; proponents claim to find traces of this incident in early Eudaemonist texts.

The tribes of the Vermailian Diaspora wandered the galaxy for over a thousand years before settling in the vicinity of the Evyl Nebula. The post-settlement period, though riven by civil wars, saw the rise of the Zeiral caste and the flourishing of a literary culture inspired by the emerging doctrines of Eudaemonism. The Vermailians eventually settled their differences and in 1628 s.y.v.p. established their celebrated Confederacy, soon becoming a major power.
