Nostalgic Inversion

A deep space syndrome triggered by emotional detachment and sustained, regimented lifestyles. Nostalgic Inversion typically affects military forces stationed more than five years from their homeworld.

High profile cases of Nostalgic Inversion affected both Vermailian and Viridian ranks. The worst incident contributed to Vermailia’s defeat in the Battle of Kriinkok. Prior to the battle, many Vermailian forces were exploring Kriinkok Quarte, improving relations with the Shining Nest, and surveying planets deep within the star system. The mission had been underway for seven years when Viridian fleets initiated combat. Ratan Dutrilik described the events as follows:

I noticed that soldiers grew increasingly unruly after the earliest raids. We suspected that morale would turn around, as the Prophecy was on our side, but the situation did not improve. Each battle report turned the men increasingly hostile toward the Confederacy. Many men turned derelict and fled to their barracks. In our final days of conflict, soldiers abandoned their loyalties, and some ships attempted unlawful cease-fire treaties with the Viridian fleets.

Civilian cases typically occur amongst destitute immigrant individuals. Lacking proper community support and leisure time, they learn to resent their neighbors and the opportunities they once held dearly.
