The first act of the Parliament of Worlds was passed on Primuary 1 of the Standard Year as Voted by Parliament 2500, establishing the Endotian Calendar as the official calendar of all member worlds.

Interstellar trade had been hampered by differing calendars among various distinct religious and political groups for quite some time. Motivated by the trade lobby, the Almnetic Empire, Vermailian Confederacy, Ctjn Empire, Tomorrow Hive and Omniscium Wherescape came together at the Port Authority of Sector 17 to create a Parliament of Worlds for the purpose of solving this problem.

The strongest opponents of this were the xenomathematicians who argued that since calendar systems were largely based on regional planetary and stellar phenomena and marked by local events, such a task was neigh impossible. They acquiesced once prominent xenomathematician Rasuium Rasuios was appointed chair of the committee to create the calendar.

By coincidence, the orbital periods of the homeworlds of 4 of the 5 Parliament members were within 0.003% of each other, pleasing the politicians and frustrating the mathematicians. Working closely with the Alliance of Chemists (an early precursor to the Chemists’ Guild), the committee chose to make one Standard Year set at the time for 290,097,396,344,952,000 vibrations of a standard mass of Yylimium when excited by a specific voltage of electricity. From there they created the 16 months with 4 weeks per month that we know today.

To assign a number to the year, the committee took the highest number year of the dominant pre-existing calendars (disregarding the Tomorrow Hive, who measured since the beginning of the universe), and rounded up. Once approved by Parliament, the calendar began at the first day of the first month of year 2500. Each civilization named the epoch differently, but all had the same meaning.
