Had planet Zarlethihk and its Almnetian inhabitants discovered their connections to Intoa prior, the Almnetic Empire could have played a greater role in shaping Viridian culture and philosophy.

Historians and scientists disagree over the origins of Almnetic Decay, and due to edicts of the Parliament of Worlds, research into the phenomenon is forbidden. Dries Historical Catalog 1.4.5 postulates that an Aleworm parasite caused the Decay. Folklore within the star system insinuates that a visiting Viridian convoy might have been involved, but these slanderous stories have never been corroborated.

The effects of the Decay are well documented: near extermination of the Almnetian civilization and catastrophic societal regression in the galaxies surrounding Zarlethihk. Viridian investigator Moleclast Yensigl reflected on the mission as follows: “We have no diagnosis. The candle of Almnet has gone out.”
