The Achronic Inverter was an experimental energy generation system created by the legendarily eccentric scientist Dula Jyrexil. While striving to develop an engine capable of propelling small personal craft between colony worlds, Jyrexil discovered that immense amounts of power could be extracted from an artificial temporal gradient within a standard propulsion plasma matrix.

While now generally considered to be inferior to Nova Generator technology in terms of reliability, the Achronic Inverter was nevertheless a major step forward in portable power supplies, even seeing limited military use in the Estyrian Conflict. Later scientists revived the research in the tumultuous times after the destruction of the Third Nova Generator, leading to development of Heterochron technology. However, due to unfamiliarity with the more esoteric aspects of Jyrexil’s research and the desperation of the researchers, a Heterochron device with previously unthinkable power was deployed, with unfortunate side-effects that none would soon forget.
