In 5234, the Mind Plague of the Viridian system stopped most municipal and administrative efforts as public works as well as the corporate world mostly shut down. The most affected industry, interstellar travel, halted almost completely, leaving barren spaceports and litter-looking landing pads all over the system. Unintentional isolationism had afflicted the first planet to the point that those desperate to save civilization began the construction of arcologies, going rather overboard in their efforts.

Emperor Floyd was little help during the seven-year crisis, and his officials that were still operating began some bizarre initiatives including an attempted but rather unsuccessful genocide of Illbreeds, the attempted taming of large number of Flarebirds for the Air Force with hilarious results, and research and development of Explosive-Triple-Mint Bubble-Chew.
