Starlight Documents

The Starlight Documents accelerated Viridian scientific, technological, and cultural progress during the Generator Era.

In the 45th century s.y.v.p., humans took their turn deciphering the collection of Intoan writings. More advanced species had known of the Documents for millennia, but segments were inscrutable. The Protheon Institute for Higher Thought translated/deciphered the entirety of the documents within a century—a nearly miraculous feat. It’s unknown what bias the scholars may have inserted into the Documents, but their techniques and process were transparently explained as we can attest.

Humans used the Documents to advance interstellar travel, to acquire new principles of xenomathematics, to prove conjectures, and to engineer heavy weapons. They contain a wealth of ancient knowledge, including economic, medical, philosophical, and sociological principles. In some cases, the Documents’ complex passages required further advancements to comprehend. Intoan myththology and origin stories for dozens of galactic cultures provide guidance on moral and existential questions.

From the Documents, three serious controversies bloomed. The first regards “Kroatoan,” a word resolved to mean “oncoming light” after hundreds of years of origin theories. The second, its religious veracity, will never end. The last continues to this day and involves cultural cycles described within the document. Mighty cultures encounter catastrophes beyond their means to correct—Viridia was no exception. However, no prior culture had survived its catastrophe.

Many believe that the Documents were an attempt by earlier cultures to seed knowledge. Viridians were the first to avoid political, physical, or cultural implosion, and that survival may have been unexpected by external forces. Some suspect, and there’s increasing evidence toward the case, that the Zintrag Wars initiated the beginning of terrifying, multiversal conflict, one which we must face.
