It is presumably in the latter sense in which it was taken up as the battle cry of the Rayechton Group during their transformation from a fringe terrorist group to a viable military and political power in the decade of the 5300s. It is thought that Nia Istarion discovered the word through her philological interests and proposed it to the Group prior to her and her husband’s temporary disappearance in 5301. Whatever the origin, Kroatoan! and the accompanying slogan Abandon the ground, take to the towers! were ubiquitous graffiti for over a decade in Ctjn-dominated lands, even across the Queasy Sea in rebellious Crilinka. The ignorant masses’ association of the word Kroatoan with humanity’s mythical origins could only serve to disguise the group’s more esoteric agenda.
