General Li'shomay

Gen. Aurelia Li'shomay (b. 5274, d. [?] 5308) is best remembered today for the colorful episode that ended her career, but thoughtful historians owe attention to her speech at the Science Confidence Exhibition in Orsinder in 5301.

We are no strangers [she orated] to the need for ingenuity. Not long ago we generated power from matter alone; many still live who remember it. But now, with the power of the mind lost to us, with old gods fallen silent and new gods walking among us, with mighty states in chaos and mighty enemies encroaching, with space itself turning against us, we now must face our destiny from all angles at once, in parallax.

In the popular mind, this "Parallax Urgency" became associated with many nascent movements in the coming decades; almost all factions claimed to be responding to the Urgency, whether or not they shared Li'shomay's (admittedly rather vaguely-expressed) preoccupations. Li'shomay herself undoubtedly used the word parallax in order to evoke Captain Logomere's celebrated voyage. She was an avid Logomerologist and undoubtedly intended to replicate his exploits, but after the scandalous circumstances of her disappearance in 5308, her dream of mass migration would slumber until revived in the 5350s by the Returners.
