Secession is not enough. STILLNESS is too much. We must seek to preserve our culture against PAN-GALACTICISM and ATAVISM. We will choke on our own prosperity until we discover NEW MODES of greatness. - Reyechton 7

The term "Rayechton" (likely from the old Intoan rai ekot yan, or "unbound wings open to the sun") first occurs in textual media in the early days of Viridian independence, in an anonymously published series of essays calling for a radical realignment of Viridian social and technological priorities. The writer's primary thesis was that only three ends awaited a standard galactic civilization:

  1. Extinction through internal unrest or ruinous warfare, as technological progress made ever greater levels of destruction ever easier.

  1. Regression to a state of primitivism, voluntary or otherwise, to avoid Fate #1.

  1. Drastic curtailment of individual will, leading to spiritual, if not biological, extinction.

In the following years, similarly concerned minds would gather together in loose, occasionally organized, confederation under the Rayechton banner. The varied goals and factions among members of the group led to a great confusion in public opinion. Were the terrorists who tried again and again to destroy the Third Nova Generator as an impermissible extension of martial power really following the same banner as the scientists who proclaimed it a necessary contracyclic development? And what would their stated goal, the Ascent of the New Man, actually consist of? It is likely that not even the self-styled Rayechtoi could say for certain.
