Japan Exchange and Teaching is a Japanese government program that pays English speakers to live in Japan and teach English at public schools. It seems to be a pretty cool way to live in another culture, and Chris says they pay well too, although he wishes the yen were stronger. JET places you in a more or less random part of the country—wherever you’re needed, I guess—and Chris ended up the middle of nowhere, but this seems to suit him. Ryan says it’s what he’d prefer, too. I don’t understand this.
